Is it worth it to get a CompTIA Security+ certification?
Lets see for what reason any certification is worthwhile:
- Getting job: With so many sec+ holders out of jobs, I’m not commenting much here. But also its an entry-level certification, so can't rely of getting jobs. With an outdated syllabus content and saturated security. if you keep reading below, you’ll see, why I am saying these guys are not industry job-ready post sec+and hence need to rely or on other complimenting certifications.
- Getting Hands-on experience: Sec+ labs and exams.. workaround simulations its a programmed environment and not a live networking environment where your skills are actually put to test.
- Getting knowledge: Sec+ its been ages and u can google it if u want, the course, the content and labs are never updated. You will be left to the mercy of your next certification or a job to gain some experience.
So, yes, while on paper Sec+ looks good… It won't do much good for you in the real world. (Getting Jobs, Getting knowledge, Getting hands-on practical experience and Learning the latest tools, attack vectors, hacking, forensics etc.) And hence if you do SEC+ and then what? what's next? What's next is doing the next certification.. coz sec+ will just give you a broader knowledge.
i would certainly refer to certification towards CEH and CND ie. certified ethical hacker and certified network defender. But the Certified Ethical hacker program is far advanced than SEC+ and it's not an entry-level certification. From a network defence point of view, yes CND will be a good starting point.
From an entry level certification in cyber security… a certification which will not only make you ready for real job roles in an entry level job. it will also get you jobs, I would certainly recommend going for CCT.
and also looking at your question, I would suggest you to go for CCT ( Certified Cybersecurity technician) And now let me explain, why to go for a CCT also purely in respect from a sec+ comparison too.
The world’s only baseline entry-level cybersecurity program offering
- 85 real-life practical hands-on labs
- Performance-based exam.
- Training in Network Defence, Ethical hacking, Digital Forensics & Security Operations
- With 50% of training dedicated to labs

CCT vs Security
Labs: CCT has 85 labs vs Sec+ has 32 labs (Very crucial for practice and making you job-ready, right from the interview process)
Exam: CCT Live Cyber Range vs Sec+ Simulations (CCT is not a simulation their Cyber Range actually mimics and virtual organisation with live systems, networks etc… )
Resources: CCT In-depth vs Sec+ Limited (looking from a content point of view I can go on from many topics where sec+ has given only limited knowledge flow. u can easily gage the idea from below 2 points)
Course Content: 2156 pages + 942 pages on labs vs Sec+ 556 pages
Course domain coverage: CCT: Network defence, ethical hacking, digital forensics security operations VS Sec+ Basic concepts in infosec
Contents: CCT 3x more than Sec+
Validation: Testing Practical Skills Ability vs Testing only knowledge
